This year the Holidays were looking pretty bleak. After Mom died we talked about if we would still get together and do our Christmas party. Mom had a place reserved and a plan and we were all excited because it's not often we are all together with my siblings and all their kids. Before Mom died She told us to cancel the Christmas party. At first I thought ok . Then we all thought we still all want to see each other so even though it would be sad and weird we should go ahead and do it. Most of us agreed but, not my Dad. He said No he didn't want it. He is not a party kind of guy! In fact He hates parties of any kind and it's hard to drag Him to anything. He is fine with "get togethers and visits" though so we changed the location and party to a "Get together" and kept the plan pretty much the same.
Needless to say losing Michon was such a shock! That was something most of us could barely handle on top of Moms death and because losing Michon was just so much more tragic.
At that point we could see Dads point of view as we faced Christmas and our Family Party with our Kids and Grandkids. We realized the the" Parties " would be very hurtful to Dad and Kaden and were not sure how to handle it. Those who lived far away had already made 2 or more unexpected trips here and we were all emotionally drained to say the least. Just the thought of facing Christmas was enough to make us all nervous so the whole "party" was looking less and less possible. From an emotional standpoint is was one of those things that could go either way. Have them and it's hard and sad, or don't then wish we had all been together even though it was hard and sad. We changed our Family party to a "get together" as well.
My brother Mitch and our kids really wanted to still "Get together". We organized it changed some it so it wasn't so celebratory and reinvited everyone. His Family and ours were the only ones who came. Kaden came up but, it was really sad and hard and pretty awkward because we didn't want to say something that would hurt His feelings or make it seem to coupely (if thats a word). We had one white elephant exchange and ate. The game lightend things up for a bit but, we all left feeling worse in some ways and kind of glad we did it anyway. It was super hard to watch Kaden. My heart once again was broken watching His heartache...Mostly it stunk!
Trying it again...
Clint and Jamie were in charge of our 'Get together" we were going to play a singing bee game and eat and have a gift exchange. They changed it to sledding and dinner. It made things a little lighter too. It was pretty fun. The sledding was really fun for everyone and since we did it in the day it seemed less formal. After we went to Clint and Jamies and She had made yummy soup and homeade bread sticks. It was reallly good. We all visited for awhile. It was still plenty awkward and sad and pretty much we all missed Michon and her spunky personlality. She is so fun, she is so honest and it just isn't the same without her. She is so missed and life is so unfair!!! I can't imagine how hard it is for Kaden but, it was really hard for us so, I know it is killing Him everyday more and more as reality sets in.
Anyway, we tried , we took some fun pictures and made the best of a horrible situation and forged on to the dreaded day of Christmas...who says that? This year we all did!!!
